Architecture of Trees — Leaves

Architecture of Trees is a series of digital illustrations examining the leaves of trees encountered across Ontario. Reduced to colour and silhouette, each leaf reveals its own geometry—an elemental structure shaped by growth, climate, and time.
Created through close observation, the series considers the leaf as both natural form and visual language. Veins become networks, edges become boundaries, and subtle differences in proportion distinguish one species from another. Removed from their surroundings, the leaves appear simultaneously familiar and newly visible.
The project is also an exploration of place. To observe and name the trees of a landscape is one way of developing a relationship with it. Through abstraction, the series reflects on how attention can transform the natural world from background into presence—and how learning a landscape can become a quiet act of belonging.
